As early as 1940, graduate chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. had begun to realize the importance of the prestige, good will and cooperation of women who were not eligible to be members of any Greek-letter organization. In 1948 a group of three women organized to assist Zeta Phi Beta Sorority members in whatever capacity they were needed. They chose the Latin name Amicae (Friends) for their auxiliary.
Today, these auxiliaries have rendered invaluable services to the sorority and their communities. The overall purpose of the Amicae is to lend assistance to Zeta activities, to promote good public relations between Zeta and community women, to make none Greek women feel closer to the programming of the sorority, and to ensure more community cooperation in Zeta activities.
